Mixed Media Wood Panel

Hi, Carol Theng today sharing a mixed media wood panel I made using the colors from July Moodboard.

"Memories"

Gesso the wood panel and spread texture paste over a stencil. Misted with blue mist.

Left the chipboard raw and adhered with 3D heavy matt gel. Added the leaves and flowers. And dew drops.

Also added a few drops of glossy accent on the flowers to create dew effect.

This is a very simple and quick project done within 30 minutes. Do have a try.

Thanks for dropping by. Do join us for our July Moodboard Challenge. Have fun.

Playing With Color Bloom Spray Mist

Hello All, it's Deena here with you today.

Just recently I finally gave in an brought the Color Bloom Spray Mists from Prima. My will had been strong until I put my name down for a class that is happening in November. In the class the sprays will be used. So me being me I needed to know what they were like and what they did and I thought I would share the outcomes with you all.

Products Used: Color Bloom Spray Mist -  Soft Teal, Brush Chrome, Deep Teal, Tangerine, Summer Sky and Cobalt. Mixed Media Paper, TCW Stencil - Mini HalfTone Circles, Clear Crackle Paste, Clear Gesso, Texture Paste, White Gesso, Matte Gel and Gloss Gel.

1. I applied clear crackle paste to the mixed media paper with a palette knife. I wanted different thinknesses of paste which I let to dry naturally. Letting it dry naturally usually produces better cracks. Once dry I sprayed it with the Soft Teal, which really didn't show up much so then with Soft Teal in one hand and Deep Teal in the other I spray them so that they would mix. I then dry them with my heat gun which resulted in this yummy background that I am sure will get used for a card at some stage.

2. To my mixed media paper I applied clear gesso with a brush. Clear Gesso really does not take long to dry at all. With the sprays it says that you can get splatters and all over coverage. To get the splatter result as seen below, you just don't squeeze the trigger as hard, makes perfect sense. Brush Chrome is the color used.

3. I applied texture paste through my stencil, which I let dry naturally. I was in no rush to dry it immediately as my 2 children are on school holidays so I have been in and out of my art space during the day, catching a few minutes peace when I can. I sprayed the texture paste with deep teal and to be perfectly honest I did not expect an all over coverage, I did not think that it would stick to the texture paste. In fact I actually had too much and press the paper into my art journal so I now have the start of a new art journal background.

4. The background below was achieved by applying a layer of gesso with a palette knife that was dried with a heat gun and then spraying Tangerine. Not sure why the color is more intense in some places than in others as it was an all over coverage, but such a pretty result, it sort of reminds me a gem stone. I wonder what I will embellish this with?

5. This has to be my favourite back ground out of all the experiments that I did. It is a layer of matte gel applied with a palette knife to the mixed media paper. It was left to dry naturally. I then sprayed Summer Sky, this again was left to dry naturally. I did end up using my heat gun but only right at the end just to finish it off.

6. My last medium I used was a Gloss Gel Medium. I didn't do an all over coverage again I played with the Cobalt splatters. Once the spray was dry I rubbed it with my finger which resulted in movement of the spray. The movement of the spray didn't surprise me as you can usually wipe away most paints and sprays from the Gloss Medium and as you can see in the last photo I wiped it as clean as I could get it.

Thank you for reading through my ramblings and I hope some of them were useful.

Hi everyone,

I'm back today to share another mixed media canvas I have created. Lots of Prima Marketing products were used on this canvas. If you love Prima Marketing and has not venture into their new range of Art mediums, it's a good chance for you to see how I mixed all the different mediums to churn out this piece of dreamy canvas.

Do check out this 8mins video which shows the whole process of creating this canvas. In the video I will be listing out the supplies used as I go along. I hope you like the tutorial and do feel free to leave any comments.

Before I leave you, here are 2 close up shots for you to have a better look at the lovely texture.

Luciana's Canvas Tutorial

Hi my friends, Luciana with you again!
Today I want to show a tutorial using a canvas.

I like to use a canvas in my projects because it allows plenty of art! There are many possibilities!
For my tutorial, I was inspired by the colors of our palette! I love using green, pink and black!

4.April option 2

This was the result! Lets go?

20150405_181937

Prepare your canvas with a layer of gesso.

20150405_152034

On a piece of plastic or craft sheet, draw with texta/pen color, as shown in photo. Spray it with water to create an inky mixture.

20150405_153218

Turn the canvas upside down on the inky water to create a smeared pattern and then dry with a heat gun.

20150405_153508

Repeat with another color. Make as many colors as you want. You can use the pens of the brand Tombow I found them perfect for this purpose!

20150405_153656

This was the result obtained with the colors I used.

20150405_154047

Now apply a layer of modeling paste with your favorite stencil. I used this stencil with roses.

20150405_154713

With the still wet modeling paste, apply the micro beads and press with your fingers to stick well.

20150405_155946

I love the effect of micro beads.

20150405_160104

Start assembling the details, use a strong glue like a silicone based one. Start with a doily and another paper embellishment and pop them where you will place your picture.

20150405_171138

Apply cheesecloth. I like the effect it has.

20150405_171321

Stick your picture using some foam tape.

20150405_171358

20150405_171436

Let's decorate with flowers and embellishments.

20150405_171512

To create effects, stamp some details on the canvas.

20150405_173144

After stamping I thought it was dark, so I applied plaster again on the stamp to soften it.

Merry Christmas from Erin

Every Christmas for the past 8 years we have gone to the breakfast with Santa with my parents.  These pictures are form the last two years.  Catherine was 4 months old in 2012, and for most of the breakfast she slept, even in Santa's arms. Then came 2013 and Catherine was 15 months old, she would not stop screaming and crying, so we now have the typical crying baby photo with Santa.  Both years the boys loved going to see Santa, they had plenty of time to tell him everything they wanted and eat as much as they wanted too!  I personally love this tradition we have started as it gives us plenty of time to take pictures, it is nice and relaxed, there are not tons of people, and I love the pictures it get from it.

I just love Christmas.  It is just full of tradition and wonder, and to see my kids light up with just to thought of seeing Santa puts a smile on my face.

Sanna's Altered Perfume Box

Hi there! Sanna here today with a little present idea for Christmas. I collect all kinds of junk - even my kids and husband ask me if I can use a certain piece for something, before throwing them away. And near relatives have now gotten to know the family habits too. That is why I am lucky to receive all kinds of empty, unwanted boxes to add to my stash. The others don´t need them, but I see potential in them. This box, for example, was a perfume packaging I then received when it was empty.

I love this kind of boxes as they are very robust and easy to alter. Now that Christmas is around the corner, it´s time to start thinking about presents, right? What better way to reuse this perfume packaging, but to revamp it  and then give it to a loved one, family member or a friend as a little present.

So what did I do with the box? As you might see in the lower part, there is still some mint green peeking thru. Well, that is the original colour of this box. It also had a very nice matter finish, so I didn't want to cover it all up, that way the outside and the inside of the box match each other.

I then added some wooden "feet" to the box. I glued them down with my all time favorite "Aleene´s Tacky Glue" and they really stay put! I then used some papers my Maja Design. I cut them into the right size and glued them on their places with decoupage glue/Mod Podge. I covered both sides of the paper with that glue, that way the paper will not wear up when using it. Also the doily will not break, when covered with decoupage glue. After the paper layers had dried, I applied some velvet and pom pom ribbon around the box lid and a resin lock for additional detail. All these parts I glued down with Aleene´s Tacky Glue.

The chipboard pieces are by Wycinanka and I covered them with white paint and then added some light grey paint here and there for a shadow effect and finally added a layer of glitter glue on the grey areas. The flowers are by Prima Marketing and I added some glitter glue on the petals for more shine. I then took an old door knob and adhered it into the middle. The box can now be opened easily.

There is also some glitter glue around the banners on the top. Just for additional detail and shine. This box makes a pretty neat present box for Christmas (oh, and by changing the papers and colours, you can create a totally different look, of course). It can be a gift on it´s own or filled with chocolate, candy or something nice and sweet. So next time, before throwing those perfume boxes away, take another look at them and reuse them. Christmas is coming, lovelies, so time to start creating ;-)... Have fun!!!

xoxo, Sanna

House Warming Gift by Priscilla

Hi everyone, it's my turn to share some inspiration today :)

A few weeks ago, I received a request from my sister to create a house warming gift for this very nice lady. I do not know her personally but looking at the photo, I knew that I wanted a striking background with some bling bling to match her elegance. Hence, the gorgeous color wheel idea came to mind.

The gold glitter ornate frame gave the glam factor, the feather created a soft and dreamy effect and the butterfly and ribbon is simply elegant.

Here's the brief steps on the creation of this background:
- To achieve the separation of each color portion; 2 pieces of paper was used to get the "V" effect for each column and sprayed on with Prima Color Bloom Spray.

Once the mist is dry, I soften the colors by dabbing white paint randomly with a kitchen towel. The uneven texture from the kitchen towel will help to create some texture. Then I picked out the blue columns to give it some extra attention by stencilling over it with the snake skin stencil from The Crafters Workshop.

I have used a script stamp from Tim Holtz Anonymous Stampers and Harlequin stencil from Tim Holtz as well to add more details and dimensions to the background.

Next is to dress up the chipboard ornate frame from Dusty Attic. I have prep this chipboard with a layer of transparent gesso before adding on the glitter. To adhere the gold glitter to the chipboard, I have applied a generous layer of glue medium, pour gold glitter over the whole chipboard and gently tap off any extra glitters.

Once done, it's time for the exciting moment to put all the embellishments together and complete the canvas!! :)
