Scraplifting but using your own style - by CathyS

This month you have no doubt noticed that we have all been scraplifting out teammates. Well I chose to scraplift Lisa-Marie but then added the twist of my own style to the page too:

I really admire Lisa-Marie's many layers that she always uses on her layouts. They are very distinctive and so effective. This is the layout I was inspired by:

My only problem though is that I don't very often scrap single photo layouts so needed to find a way to incorporate multi-photos onto a single photo scraplift. You will see those three small photos on the bottom right, they were added after I had finished most of the layout... more in line with my style and just helped with telling the silly story. I also hand-journalled on my layout after I had photographed the finished page, just so that I would have the story, but it would be too personal to share here.

So my challenge to you is not to be scared of scraplifting a layout, but always remember to somehow make it your own and true to your style too.

Happy scrapping till next time,

Cherie’s January 2019 Parents Layout

Morena from New Zealand.  Parents are our first foundation of family.  My dad passed late last year and so he has been in the forefront of my mind.  His oldest brother sent me some photos of my dad and his brother and sister that we had never seen before.  It was lovely to see my dad as a small boy and each time I look at the photos I see how like him my own brothers were as children, which is something we had never known.  My parents established firm foundations from which I have built my own family and looking back I am so grateful for these foundations.

I generally like to use more than one photo on a layout to tell the bigger story.  The main photo is a 6x4 portrait and the smaller photos are 3x4 landscapes.  Start  by matting the photos.  The main photo is double matted – white then black.  The three smaller photos are single matted on white as older original photos would have been when printed.

I cut the circle frame in half and then tore down each side carefully, tearing towards me so the wide edge would be on the top. Then I inked both torn edges, using two different dye colours which I had pulled out of the colours on the circle frame.

Next play with the position of the photos – I place the main photos first and then the smaller photos.  Fussy cut around the elements on the circle frame so you can slide photos under so the elements are still visible.  Ink the edges of all cut pieces using the lighter ink.

Once you are happy with the placement of the photos position the large photo strip.  Ink the edges of the three tags.  I used the brighter ink colour for this.  Layer the tags and the smaller photo strips as shown.

Finally add some journaling if you want to the bottom tag and string to the tie hole.  I finished off by gluing some metal cog embellishments I buy through Ali Express for a reasonable price.

Louise's monochrome layout with process video

Hi Crafters

Louise with you today ... wishing you a Happy New Year.
January is almost as busy as December but hopefully you will get a chance to play along with our January moodboard challenge.

My layout "The real deal"

The challenge this month is of course to complete a monochrome page - white plus a colour from the moodboard.

My inspiration came from the bright green in my photo and I used stash items to create my title first.
Then I used the chevron wood pieces to inspire the remainder of the background work.

You can hear all about it in the process video.

Thanks for visiting.
