Tags with Anguree

Hello everyone

Welcome back on the Off The Rails Blog and if you have not visited us before, we are just thrilled to have you here. Make sure you follow us for fabulous ideas and shares from the design team members all month long.

Today I'd like to share a quick tag I made, with the words be positive.

Firstly you need a kraft tag. Mine measured approximately 9 x 15 cm. Cut a piece of patterned paper to fit the inside of the tag, leaving a small border. (I used 7 Dots Studio paper). Ink the edges of your patterned paper using Archival ink.

Using black ink spray and a stencil, add some background colour to your tag. Then flip the stencil and use as a stamp to make use of access spray.

Add some molding paste through a word stencil. I used this Words of Wisdom stencil from Scrap FX.

Splatter the tag with acrylic paint. Use a paintbrush to add a tiny bit on your kraft sheet and spray it with water and  mix it through to create a more fluid liquid base. Splatter it onto your tag and repeat with some gold paint. Then also add a few spots of silver alcohol ink.

Spray some medical gauze with black ink spray.

Gather some tiny embellishments. I used a resin frame, feather and flowers and a prima resin face.
Paint the resin frame with black gesso. Once dry wipe some ink away with a wet wipe.

Paint the resin face and metal lamp with  Adirondack ink ink and acrylic paint.

Paint chipboard pieces with the same acrylic paint you previously flicked onto the tag. ( I chose to cut my chipboard in 2 pieces.)

Arrange your embellishments onto the tag and adhere with glue or gel medium. Add tiny bits of guaze in between to create texture.

Add some random stamping around your subject, using black Archival ink. Add some journaling words. I used some Tim Holtz stickers, with a bit of double sided foam underneath each word.

Use matte medium to add sequins and micro beads to finish off the end result.  Punch a hole at the top of the tag and set an eyelet. String through black organza ribbon. Voila, you are done.

I hope you enjoyed this time with me today and look forward to seeing your creations and variations on mine.

Till next time, enjoy being creative.

13 Tips to save Scrapbooking $'s with Anguree

Hello everyone

It's Anguree on the blog today, and I for today, I prepared a something I think we could all use at some time or another. Budget saving tips... Yes, hands up everyone who has to stretch their dollar(s) to go further and get more crafty supplies within a limited budget. Honestly, who hasn't be there?  As much as I absolutely love all the new products on the market and want them ALL, I  simply cannot afford to continuously purchase more and more. I think you would agree that there are times we simply need to make do with what we have or what we can afford. So  I've decided to share my tips on how you still enjoy crafting, without breaking the budget.

13 Tips to save Scrapbooking $'s

  1. Up-cycle a gift bag and packaging for matting and journalling purposes. I used a San Churro gift bag and gift box in my layout. ( If you have a look below, you may note I used the paper bag to matt my background and then used the phrases on the side of the paper bag and a gift box for my journalling.)
  2. Create a “watercolour background” using coffee or tea.
  3. Use an old Souvenir Fan as a stencil on your background.
  4. Cut and dry some oranges in your dehydrator or oven to create unique embellishments for your layouts, cards or gifts.
  5. Use the leftover or inside pieces of chipboard frames as embellishments.
  6. Save the wrapper from champagne bottles when you have a special occasion and use them to cover your chipboard pieces to add some bling.
  7. Buy second hand books at your local op-shop or second hand store and use the book paper for matting or creating embellishments.
  8. Save the mesh bags of vegetables, fruit and sweets to use for making flowers or layering items.
  9. Collect coasters from restaurants and use them to mat your photos.
  10. Collect clothing tags and use the tag to mat your photo and the string and baby pin as embellishments.
  11. Use some old chicken wire instead of chipboard for layering.
  12. Use some rusted iron to make leaves for your flowers.
  13. Add some random stitching onto your photo mat and background with your sewing machine for added texture.
Not sure how to use these tips? Have a look at this layout I created for entering the Scrapbooking Memories' Masters Competition 2015. I'm please to share that this layout also earned me a Honourable Mention in the January Magazine.

Making embelishments from die-cuts and champagne cork wrappers. Stiching

Using book paper and gauze from chocolates I bought. Title was from a paper bag from San Churros.

I hope you enjoyed this time with me and hope you found a few tips you have not tried before.  Please share any other of your tips on how to save some dollars and share your works with us.

Till next time,  have fun.

Beautiful Christmas tag from Anguree

Hello everyone

It's Anguree, on the blog today and I am absolutely thrilled to be joining this team of talented designers.

So for my first tutorial,  I decided to share some tips on how to make a tag for someone special this Christmas. I just loved the pink and blue mood board which is something different than the traditional red, green and brown.

I started off with a blank tag from Kaszazz. If you don't have any tags in your stash, just cut a plain rectangular piece of cardstock and snip off the ends on the top.

I decided paint my tag, using the Tim Holtz, Distress Paints by Ranger, but you could use any other quick drying acrylic paint of your choice.  My colour choice included following Distress Paints: Stormy Sky, Salty Ocean , Antique Linen and Spun Sugar.

Wet your paintbrush in water and get off any excess water by drying it a little with a wet wipe. Dip into a bit of stormy Stormy Sky Paint and roughly brush some strokes on your tag.

Fill in your brush strokes with the Salty Ocean.

Clean your brush and follow the same pattern, filling in gaps with Spun Sugar Paint. Use the same method and add the Antique Linen paint.

Once the paint is dry, use a script stamp with Archival ink and stamp randomly on the left side of the tag. (I used Magnesia blue)

Use a Stencil and add some modelling paste. Dry with a heat gun. (Apologies for a very messy stencil - I do clean them but black is a tough one to get clean ;) )

Gather some embellishments from your stash. For my tag, I just used some leftover die-cut pieces, an empty little jar, which previously contained micro  beads, a leftover piece of chipboard and leftover flowers. So I used nothing new or precious. Just scrap bits of paper and little odds and ends I did not end up using for previous projects. So here's the tip: Get yourself a junk tin and chuck in all leftover bits next time you clean up after doing a layout. Leftovers in a junk tin can be a real money saver and treasure trove.

Paint your chipboard. I used Viva 3D Stamp Paint Silver.

Fill the little jar with some glitter to resemble the magic of Christmas.

Arrange your embellishments on the tag and  adhere with 3D gel or any other glue of your preference.
Add some bling stripes to "hang" your embellishments. (Again I used an old opened packet.) You will note I changed a tiny detail of bling  on the bottom while arranging and assembling the embellishments. This is normal for me, I do things, and then change it again before it's finished.

Add a touch of coarse glitter using a paint brush and some  soft gel medium.

Hide any embellishments that you stuck on the back of the tag or paint by sticking another tag of the same size on the back of the tag. This will also give a little more support to a tag that may me a bit embellishment heavy.

Punch a hole in the top of your  tag using a crocodile or single hole punch.

Set the eye lit and grab a string or chain as I did. Using a piece of chain, I  had to use a tiny jumping from my stash. (Yes I dabbled into beads and jewellery making some years ago )

And there you have it., all done. Please play along this month and share your take on the mood board.

Hoped you enjoyed this time with me and look forward chatting to you again in February. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. May you really enjoy this time with your family and friends.

Cheers

I've being scrapbooking since 2003 but have only recently ventured into the online world of challenges and blogs and I haven't looked back. My scrapping style is a little eclectic, mostly mixed media style with loads of colour and technique.
I am so excited to join Off the Rails DT and feel honoured to be a part of such a amazing and creative team. I am also really looking forward to getting to know you all and hopefully inspiring you along the way! You can catch up with me over on the blog - http://2crazycrafters.blogspot.com.au

Hello there, my name is Anguree, and I am absolutely thrilled to be part of such an awesome team.

I am married to an awesome guy and live in tropical Darwin, Northern Territory (NT) Australia. We have no children except for a very spoiled Chocolate Labrador.

I was introduced into Scrapbooking somewhere between 2004 and 2005 and have been addicted ever since. I generally scrap 12x12 pages, but also love art journaling, making cards and off the page projects. My style vary from grungy to shabby but I dare say no style is off limits.

Over the years I've learnt not to get too tied up in what exactly my style is or should be, but rather to enjoy the process of creating. I love to experiment and try new products, mediums, techniques and all the little discoveries along the road.
I have been very lucky and blessed to have been published in Scrapbook Creations Magazine and Scrapbooking Memories Magazine and have previously been teaching at Scrap Matrix. I'm also very proud to be a design team member for Studio M Designs and Colour Stories Inspiration(CSI).

I live on small acreage of the North West Coast of Tasmania with my husband.  We are recent empty nesters and I must say it is quiet and peaceful!!
I have been scrapbooking for about 12 years but have always done something crafty in my life. I wouldnt say I have a particular style - it depends on the photo and my mood but I love mixed media, flowers, bling (a little hard when you have 2 boys!) and chipboard.

I generally do 12x12 pages but love the odd canvas, off the page project, art journal and cards. You can find my work on my blog - http://www.memoriesonthepage.blogspot.com.au/ if you want a peek. I am excited to be a part of the team at Off The Rails and look forward to sharing my creations with you all.

MANDY MELVILLE
http://mandymelville.blogspot.com.au/

I live on the beautiful Central Coast of New South Wales in Australia. I’ve been married to Andrew for 13 years and we have three children, Abigail (11 years), Isaac (8 years), and Eleanor (1 year).

I’ve been scrapbooking for about 11 years, since my oldest was a baby, and it has become more than just a hobby, it’s my passion! I love preserving my family’s memories, and I equally love the creative outlet that scrapbooking provides! My style varies as I like to let the mood of the photos dictate the style of the layout and I like to try out different techniques, though most often on my layouts you will see layering, clustered embellishments, pretty patterned papers, and sometimes a little bit of mixed media.

I also love to use my Silhouette Cameo to create titles, backgrounds and other elements for my layouts. I am very lucky to be regularly published in Scrapbooking Memories Magazine (an Australian mag) and to be on some awesome design teams including D-lish Scraps, Stuck?! Sketches and Scrap the Girls. I am so thrilled to have been invited to join the talented bunch of designers on the Off the Rails Scrapbooking Design Team and I can’t wait to start sharing my projects with you! If you’d like to take a look at my work, you can visit my blog at http://mandymelville.blogspot.com.au/

Tania Ridgwell

My name is Tania Ridgwell and I live in the North Eastern suburbs of Adelaide with my partner of 13 years and our beautiful 9 year old daughter Chloe.

My Paper Crafting journey started soon after she was born and she is my never ending source of inspiration. I am totally addicted to all things craft and love to create anything from layouts to cards though my absolute favourite is for anything Off The Page.

I love to try new techniques and though I don't have any one specific style I would have to say the majority of my work is "feminine" and I love to incorporate mixed media into my work along with chipboard, blooms and plenty of bling!

 Peg Hewitt
http://pegsplaytime.blogspot.com.au/

Hi, I’m Peg.

I’m quite excited to be joining such an illustrious line-up of past and present designers here at Off The Rails. I only hope I can measure up! So a little about me...

For 15 years I’ve been a die-hard scrapbooker (who now occasionally toys with art journalling or canvas). Grunge and mess are common aspects to my work and I nearly always use some type of wet medium in my creations.  My style varies depending on my mood, the time I have at my disposal, and what is sitting on my table at any given moment. My process is rather organic as I don’t pre-plan and rarely know what my finished project will look like when I start. My primary motivation for creating anything is to tell a story, it comes from the relationships and experiences in my life, warts and all. Scrapbooking, to me, is cathartic. It keeps me sane.

I have been regularly published in the Aussie mags for a number of years, being both a Creative Team member (2014) and a ‘Master’ (2015) for Australian Scrapbooking Memories Magazine. I was a member of the Tattered Angels Design Team for 2011, and spent 3 ½ years designing for Gauche Alchemy among numerous other positions.

On the more personal side, I am happily married to a marvellous and supportive man and together we have 4 children (3 boys and a girl) aged from 20 - 11. We live in a country town in regional NSW on a 2 acre block with chickens, a cat, and a gorgeous garden/yard. I am a work at home mum and do the paperwork for our business as well as helping out at school with crafts and ethics.

Tanya Cloete

My name is Tanya, I am 28 years of age and live in South Africa.

I have been scrapping for 6 years now.  It all started with seeking a ‘hobby’ to keep me busy during the day, little did I know what I had led myself into J.  I have always loved doing crafty things but never knew that scrap booking would develop into such a passion!!!

Photos are memories to be treasured forever and what better way than to tell a story by the beautiful layouts or albums one can make!!!

I love creating ‘booklet’ type albums and single page layouts but I have recently developed a great new love for making 3D projects!

Scrap booking is a lot of fun and very relaxing!

We are so excited to be introducing 7 new designers to the team, they are all beautiful and are extremely talented, and absolutely adorable to chat with, you will get a lot of inspiration from these ladies.
