Folded Box Card Tutorial by Bev

Hi everyone.  Bev here today and we are making a Folded Box Card.

This style or design can be used for so many card themes.
This one however is themed
Love/Valentine/ Birthday Card/ or romantic for someone close to us.

Starting with a 12x12 sheet.. cut it down to 10x10.
Score each of the 4 sides at the 2 1/2" mark.

Cut out the squares on each corner .. use the scoring marks to cut them.
Now you fold the flaps the same as you would a box and tuck the last flap under to hold it in place.
Decorate as you please. Above is the inside of my card
and below is the outside front panels. ..all 4 of them.

In the centre front make a decorator accent to reinforce and help hold the box fold shut.
You only apply glue to the top right quarter to adhere it to card.
Below is the printable sheet for you to follow when making this fun and easy card.

Thanks for stopping by.. and hope you try this easy fun to make card...

Background Technique

I would like to officially welcome Heather to the Off The Rails design team. Heather is a very talented designer with lots of experience in the industry. She teach's, is published regularly in scrapbooking magazines and is an all round fabulous lady. We are so thrilled to have her on the team. Join us in welcoming her and leave her some love in the comments.

Hello! It's Heather McMahon with you today to share how I made my February layout for Off The Rails.

Firstly, here's my layout:

Step 1
Use a Studio M Designs paint scraper, or anything that creates a corrugated edge, to apply gesso to the right side of the page.

Step 2
Stamp stars of various sizes around the area with black ink. I used Heidi Swapp stamps.

Step 3
Trim some strips of white cardstock and stamp sentiments on them. Again, I used Heidi Swapp stamps.

Step 4
Cut strips of papers and layer these, plus your stamped strips, under the photo. I used Webster's Pages paper.

Step 5
Colour the Dusty Attic chipboard flourish (this one is called Vintage Flourish) with three colours of paint. I used Dusty Attic white, pink and pale green (the photo below has a colour issue!). Coat them in white, pink and green Beck BT's Tinby Designs Metallic Melts and heat to set.

Step 6
To finish off, trim a centimetre from two sides of the background paper and adhered it to white cardstock. Fussy cut elements from Webster's Pages and October Afternoon papers and back the photo with paper. Add a title and date and you're done!

I hope you can join in our challenge this month.

Happy scrappin'!

Get creative using bits and bobs from around the house!

Hi everyone, today I'm sharing a short video tutorial on how to create a canvas background with things you can find around the house.

In the video, I have used dish washing sponge, medical gauze, bottle cap, kitchen towel, bubble wrap and toothbrush to work on the background.

So be adventurous and try with other stuffs that's lying around the house, for example expired membership cards, cutlery, masking tapes and so much more....you will never know what effect you will get from mixing them up. That's the fun is it? :)

Thank you for visiting the blog and feel free to leave any comments.

Happy Crafting!

Introducing Nicole Doiron

Hello everyone!

My  name is Nicole Doiron from New Brunswick Canada
and I am excited to be here today
at Off the Rails Scrabooking as the February Guest Designer.

Thank you Amanda for this opportunity!

I have been an avid scrapbooker since one of my good friends introduced me to it in 2004.
It didn't take long before I was passionate about this wonderful hobby!
My scrapbooking style varies a lot, adapting itself constantly to my moods and inspirations.
I tend more towards the shabby chic style.  I like to use a lot of embellishments (chipboard shapes,
flowers, bling, tags, eyelets and brads) and I love to add handmade stitching on a lot of my projects.
My forte is definitely layouts (from single to double-page), but I do also create
a lot of cards and tags and have been challenging myself
to create more and more beyond the page projects.

I am currently on several design teams which keep me extremely busy and inspired:
Scrap Around the World, 2Crafty Chipboard, My Creative Scrapbook, White with One and Scrap our Stash.

You can visit my blog at http://scrap-utopia.blogspot.ca to see more of my creations.

Here is my take on the hip and trendy February mood board:

As you can see, I stayed real close to the colour palette and was inspired by the Eiffel tower image.

This picture was taken by my friend Christine on her trip to Europe a few years back.
I simply modified it in Picassa using the 'tint' option, turning it into the shades I wanted to match the board.

If you look at this page and see more of my creations,
you will notice that I often had a whitewash (or we could say white snowy) effect to my projects.

It is, some could say, one of my signature style.
I love how it softens up my layouts and gives them more of a shabby chic feel.
It's very easy to accomplish just using a good ol' makeup sponge covered in white acrylic paint that I lightly dab over the edge of papers and over most of my embellishments.
It doesn't always look perfect, but that's the fun of creativity! :)

Hope you have enjoyed my post!

Thank you Nicole for being our GDT, and we loved her work so very much that I've ask her to join us on the DT, and doing a happy dance,  Nicole excepted!!  So you'll be seeing more of her amazing work in the future.

Thanks again Nicole

Beautiful Little Card by Jelissa

Hello friends!

In again today with a little card I made for the Feb mood board challenge over at Off the Rails Scrapbooking. Here's the gorgeously colored mood board:

Below is how I put everything together.

Step 1

I started off with a sheet of white cardstock (12" x 6") and folded it into half. Taking some papers from Maja Design, I trimmed them further into 2 sizes for layering - 5.75" x 5.75", and 5" x 5". Distress the edges and ink them.

Step 2

Take some distress stain and paint (I used the same shade) and color the edges of the white cardstock. Ink the edges again.

Step 3

Adhere the 3 layers together. I also added some twine underneath the second layer for a nice little bow later. Twine also because I saw the balloons in the image and the strings they were drifting from.

Step 4

To make my floral paper a little more interesting, I added some modeling paste over a stencil.

Step 5

And some splatters of color by mixing paint with liquid medium, both from 13@rts.

Step 6

Adding a die cut doily with the edges inked.

Step 7

Scrounge up a piece of canvas cloth and glue it onto the card, followed by pompom trim. I added the canvas for a fabric texture, which I figured the lady in the image must have been a fashionista (from the oversized sunnies of course!). Pompoms because they look like cute little balloons.

Step 8

Colored a piece of mini flourish chipboard (Blue Fern Studios) with a few different types of pigments. Assemble everything else (flowers, embellishments etc) and voila!

You can see the purple, deep red, pink and just a tiny bit of green.

I didn't have any stickers with "awesome" in it, so I guess being yourself is another way of being awesome :D

The Eiffel Towel trinket was just begging to be used after being hoarded for so long!

So that's all I have for today. Do check in with the blog for more details on the challenge!

love,

Creating Texture

Hi, it's Deena on the blog with you today. I love playing with stencils, in fact I think they have become an addiction, but I wanted to create texture on a canvas background with out them. So I assembled the following products on my desk to see what I could create.

Finnabair Art Basics 3D Gloss Gel - Transparent
Golden Fluid Acrylic - Titanium White
Derivan Matisse Flow - Bleached Titanium
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist - L.E.D. Red
Limor Webber Designs Lindy's Stamp Gang Flat Fabio Spray - Pop Rock Purple
Faber-Castell PITT artist pen big brush - Pink Madder Lake
Faber-Castell PITT artist pen big brush - Magenta
Faber-Castell PITT artist pen big brush - Manganese Violet
Tim Holtz Adirondack Alcohol Ink - Cool Peri
3 10cm x 10cm x 3.3cm canvases

Using my plastic paint scraper I quickly scrapped some of the 3D Gloss Gel on all three canvas. I did it quickly as I did not want them to be the same or perfect. I wanted the bumps, the missed bits and the thin bits.

I picked up two of the canvases and pressed them together. I held them in one hand while I pushed the canvas from the back with my fingers . I then slowly pulled them apart and this amazing texture began to appear. Wondering how I was going to get that texture on the third canvas I again quickly used my paint scrapper to smooth out some of the gel so I could press the 2 canvases together.

Once I had texture on the canvases used my heat gun to dry the gel. At this stage I still had no idea what I was going to create on the canvases as I really was just playing. As I was drying them on two of the surfaces I could see a flower, the third was still a mystery.

Now that the gel was completely dry it was time to use my white paint and a very fine angled paint brush to create the edge of my flower. You can use a grey lead pencil to draw your shape but I found it easy enough using my paint brush. To create the flower I just followed the textural lines made by the gel.

Using the white paint i could clearly see my flower shape, leaving the inside of the flower alone, using my fingers i spread white paint around the rest of the canvas. Taking the top of my Pop Rock purple and L.E.D. Red I used the end of the tube to paint with. I coloured in my flowers, making some parts darker than others. Drying the sprays to speed up the process, and then adding more colour on top. Happy with the coloured sprays I used I them started adding different colours with my PITT pens.

The middle of my purple flower was coloured with the glimmer mist and the middle of my red flower was coloured using my alcohol ink.

The final step was using my fingers to add some unbleached titanium to the canvas.

Don't be afraid to play with your products, use them different ways because you never know what you could end up creating.

Valentine's Day Card

I wanted to make a Valentine's Day card for my backyard neighbor.  She has been so sweet to me since we moved in by having my kids over to play, bringing me a bottle of wine, inviting us to parties, being my ballet instructor, and just being sweet.  I could not ask for a better neighbor!!  So why not give her something unexpected with a sweet card, Valentine's Day is not just for your partner/spouse/lover it is also for those you care about!!

Inspiration for this card is the mood board below from Off the Rails.  I just loved the feel of it, it seemed romantic and flirty, so it made me think of Valentine's Day.  You can join the challenge using this mood board until the end of the month!!

Latest Mood Palette

In the center of the card are two little envelopes from Canvas Corp, I wrapped them up in Pink twine from Canvas Corp and cut out a heart from canvas and sprayed it with Tattered Angels Black Cherry Glimmer Mist, wrapped it in natural twine, added a strip of hearts paper,  and then topped it off with the super cute little cork sticker from Paper House.

Inside each of the envelopes I added a little card for each of the little girls in my neighbor's house, they need Valentine's too!!  I simple cut out paper to fit in the envelopes (2.25 x 3.5 inches), added a little square of kraft paper, and a punched heart from a hot pink paper.  On the back I simply wrote Happy Valentine's Day to each of the girls.

Behind the enveloped I used the Valentine's Paper form Canvas Corp and backed it with kraft paper all inked in a red chalk ink (Rose Bud) from Prima.  In the end I spattered the entire card with the same mist as above by unscrewing the applicator and tapping the end of it around the card to make splatters.  The entire card measures 5 x 7 inches.

My challenge to you is to create a fun Valentine for someone unexpected - it is always nice to see someone smile :)

Supplies used
Sticker -  Paper House
Ink - Prima
Punch - EK
Trimmer/Scissors - Fiskars
Adhesive -  Beacon & Scotch
Enjoy!!

You Brighten Up My Day - a tutorial by Carol

Hi, friends. Have you ever wondered what to do with a bunch of words/phrases/quotes stamps and numerous brands/types of inks?? Well, today I want to share how I combined all together??

"You Brighten Up My Day" Layout

I have many inkpads. And I'm sure all of you do!! You need not be afraid to combine all together in one layout or project. Even if the images doesn't come out as crisp, it's perfectly fine. Note: you might want to use a smooth cardstock instead of a textured one.

Here I used Archival inkpads, Archival Brillance inkpads, Memento Luxe inkpads, StazOn inkpads, Versafine inkpads and Stampin' Up inkpads to stamp out the background details. It added an interesting and eye-catching background that attract you to the black and white photo. I also cut one side of the photo with a border die to make it more interesting.

As I wanted to create a very "light" and simple layout, I do not want to add bulk to it by using solid and 3D accents. So I added Pink Paislee "Hello Sunshine" ephemera ( the transparent tag and flowers and sun) instead. Love how it turn out.

So do not be afraid to combine different inkpads and stamps as background. I hope you enjoy my sharing today.

Do join us in our February Challenge. Love the yummy mood board. Have fun!
