Puffy Hearts Tutorial with Narelle

Hi everyone, Narelle here. It is my turn to share with you a quick tutorial.

Do you remember my layout from the mid month reveal. If not, then here it is as a quick reminder.

Did you notice the little fluffy heart on it? Here is a closer picture for you, so you can see it more clearly.

Today I am going to share with you how I made that little heart. I had seen in a few magazines and online blogs, similar little hearts that appear to be an emerging trend. They looked pretty simple to make, so I set about experimenting. And I was right, they really aren't that hard.

All you need is a heart punch, some card stock, twine and adhesive. That's it. Oh and maybe a little bit of patience. And if you have a cat like mine that likes to chase the twine ball, perhaps you need even more patience.

So the first thing you do is punch out your heart. I used a fairly thin piece of card stock, but in hindsight,it would be much easier to do with a much sturdier piece of card stock.

Then tape the twine to the back.

I used crochet twine because I didn't have enough bakers twine for the fullness of the heart that I wanted. You could probably use wool and maybe even a very thin ribbon. The look might be a little different, but the technique would be the same.

Then continue to wrap the twine around the heart.

Continue until you have all the card covered and a puffy heart shape. For the final couple of wraps of the twine, I made a pattern so the front of the heart didn't look a higgildy piggildy mess. But it's up to you how you want the finished product to look.

Once you are happy with your puffy heart, use adhesive to finish the twine off. Add more adhesive to stick the heart to your project.  I used double sided tape to adhere the loose end of the string, and another strip to secure the final layer of twine and ensure it didn't move. Then I used a liquid glue to adhere the heart to my layout.

You don't have to be limited with a heart shape either. I think these would look just as great as stars, clouds or any other shape you can think of.

I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial and will give this a go soon. If you do, we would love to see your work in our Facebook group.

Thanks for dropping by today.
Have a great day.
Cheers,
Narelle
