It's Narelle here and it's my turn to share with you a great tip and tutorial.

Remember a couple of days ago my layout was shared with you all when the October Mood Board was revealed.  Well today I am going to show you how I created the heading that was on that page.

As a reminder, here is the page.

The first thing I wanted to share was a tip. Sometimes when making headings you don't always have all the letters you need, so you need to substitute. If you look closely at my heading above, you can probably tell that the M in family is actually an upside down W. And the L is actually a back to front J. I have had these chipboard letters sitting in my chipboard box for a couple of years. So naturally when I wanted to make the word Family, I didn't have all the letters I needed. You won't be able to substitute all the time, but you may be able to a lot of the time.

But the real thing I wanted to tell you about this heading, is how I altered the chipboard.

Here is a closer look at the letters.

This is how I altered them.

First of all I coloured the chipboard letters using a sponge dauber and an ink pad.

Then I inked up the Hardwood background stamp with versamark.

Then I rubbed the letters with the Embossing Buddy,and pressed the letters into the inked up stamp.

I then sprinkled on White Embossing Powder.

And heat set.

There are lots of different ways you can alter the look of chipboard. This is just one.
