Using a Colour Wheel Part 5 - Complementary Colour Schemes

Hello OTR friends. Well Fiona here with you again with the final instalment of my colour wheel series. This time I'd like to share with you "Complementary" colours. Probably one of the most popular colour schemes we use in our Scrapbooking and Art Journalling.

Complementary colours are the opposite colours to each other on the colour wheel. For example Orange and Blue.

or Pink and Light Green.

They are designed to give maximise contrast, which in turn creates a sense of stability and as unnatural as they may seem, they can actually be found everywhere in nature. I've taken inspiration from these pictures and created two cards using the complementary colour scheme.

Using the Blue - Orange combination

Using the Pink - Green combination

I had heaps of fun exploring the colour wheel again. It's certainly made me think more about the colours I'm using and why. I hope it has been an inspiration for you too. If you missed the other 4 parts, I've popped the links to them below. For anyone interested, I have a PDF of the five parts saved on my laptop and I'm happy to send it to anyone via email if they wish to have a copy of them for their reference. Private message me on my Facebook page HERE with your email and I'll send it off to you.

Until next time, keep scrapping :)

Cheers
Fiona xx
